Celebration Eats and Treats for a Busy Time of Year

What are you celebrating these days?

Whether it's Mother's Day, graduation, retirement, or simply observing the beauty of a sunrise, I hope one of these recipes will make your day even more memorable.

At my house, we are celebrating Mother's Day this Sunday. Our tradition is to pick up dinner from a favorite restaurant so the moms/cooks in the family get a break. Thanks to the men for planning dinner, cleaning up, and the best part, after-dinner entertainment.

Pan-Fried Breaded Chicken Tenders with Rosemary and Parmesan

You can’t miss with this recipe for chicken tenders when you add fresh rosemary and parmesan cheese to the breading. You don’t have to turn on the oven. Instead, use a pan on top of the stove so clean-up is easy. (My sister loves this recipe with fish instead of chicken.)

Crunchy Coleslaw with Ramen

A family favorite, this coleslaw combines toasted almonds, sesame seeds, and crunchy Ramen noodles, all dressed in a light sweet-and-sour vinaigrette.

Fluffy Seeded Bread Rolls: An Easy Bread Machine Recipe

Let your bread machine do the hard work with this easy recipe for seeded bread rolls. Simply bake in the oven after the dough is prepared for delicious, homemade bread.

Simple Coffee Angel Food Cake: The "Most Talked-About Cake"

Helen Corbitt billed her from-scratch recipe for Coffee Angel Food Cake as “the most talked-about cake at Neiman Marcus.” For many, scratch angel food cakes often turn out to be underachievers who can't seem to reach the top of the pan.

So I say, "Cake mix, please." That means there will be no separating of egg whites, no layers, and no guilt-inducing leftover egg yolks.

"I’ve tried making salad dressings before but have always found them to be overpowering. This one, however, is perfect. So delicious and easy to make."

On a personal note:

I'm going to take some time off for the rest of this month, so I may not respond to emails as quickly as usual. But don't hesitate to write if you get stuck or have questions about a recipe.

Thank you for your support and encouragement. I never take it for granted.

Love,

Paula

Hi Friends, The Fourth of July is my favorite holiday and an excuse to share homemade food with others. Even if you aren't celebrating a holiday, you likely find yourself cooking or baking for others, bringing joy and connection through your efforts. Recently, I was inspired by Trevor J. Wilson's book Open Crumb Mastery. It's not for beginners, and it's not a cookbook. But if you...

I love summer and celebrating with family. It's the best time for homemade hamburger buns, ice cream, and watermelon. This week, there is something for everybody--hamburger buns for the bread makers, creme fraiche ice cream for the yogurt makers, and espresso (or coffee) ice cream for coffee lovers. If you like watermelon like I do, check out this post for "How To Pick the Perfect Watermelon" by Rachel Teodoro. Her method works better for me than thumping. Bread Machine Hamburger Buns These...

Hello Friends, I hope your summer (or winter, to my southern hemisphere friends) is off to a good start. After taking a break and a nice vacation, I came home with a rip-roaring case of acute bronchitis. This isn't my first go-around with the stuff, but it's been a while, and I forgot how long it takes to get over the coughing. Thankfully, I'm on the mend. Reader Question: Can I substitute oil for butter in a yeast bread recipe? Substitutions can be challenging. Since I can't test for every...
